Dr. John A. Shields, Jr.

ShieldsJohn has over 30 years of experience in R&D, process and product development, and sales in the refractory metals business. He has consulted for companies in the US, Asia, and Europe. Projects include due diligence for potential acquisitions, market studies, process design, application troubleshooting, failure analysis, new material development, and process development.

John is a Fellow of ASM International; he received the ASM International Cleveland Chapter Award of Distinction in 2004.  The Cleveland Engineering Week Committee selected John as Cleveland’s Engineer of the Year in 2002, and the Cleveland Technical Societies Council awarded him the Robert B. Cummings Distinguished Leadership Award In 2006.  In 2009, he received the Distinguished Service award from the Structural Materials of TMS, and in 2010, the Metal Powder Industries Federation conferred on him the Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy award.


George Robinson

RobinsonGeorge Robinson has almost 40 years of experience as a sales and marketing executive in the refractory metals and semiconductor support industry.  He has developed markets and products for refractory metal mill products and parts for the Semiconductor, Defense, Thermal Processing, Electronics, Chemical, Aerospace and other industries.  George has organized and facilitated activities at privately held companies enabling them to meet the needs of existing and emerging markets.




Joe Hoffman

HoffmanJoe Hoffman is Managing Principal of PentaMet.  Joe has over 27 years of experience in the rolling, finishing and fabrication of molybdenum, tungsten and their alloys for aerospace, medical, electronics and industrial applications.  Joe has worked with customers worldwide to develop applications for flat rolled products.  PentaMet projects include investor due diligence, market research, project management, inventory control and process improvement. Joe’s experience managing operations in the US, China and Europe gives him an understanding of cultural differences and managing teams spanning international boundaries.
